Free Culture at Virginia Tech would like to extend an invitation to the 36 students who were sent RIAA "pre-litigation" letters. Our organization does not endorse illegal file sharing, but we are concerned with the rights of the digital consumer and are opposed to the draconian enforcement of copyright law. We try to fight unreasonable legislation and policies concerning copyright law, but we can't do it alone. For example, a bill that we been working to fight has just been passed through the House of Representatives, requiring all universities to plan a system to deter file sharing and filter for copyright infringement.

If you are curious about your rights or want to know more about free alternatives to digital media and software, please join us Wendesdays at 8:30pm in Torgerson 3180.
